US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday held bilateral talks with his new Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud, during which they discussed the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Pompeo congratulated Farhan's son on his appointment as Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, the State Department said in a statement issued by its spokeswoman, Morgan Ortagos.
“The two foreign ministers renewed their aspiration to work together to continue building a strong partnership between the United States and Saudi Arabia,” Ortagos said.
Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz bin Farhan appointed a new foreign minister on October 23, after his predecessor, Ibrahim al-Assaf, was relieved of his post.
